The Juvenile Detention Facility is a 24-hour detention facility established in 1975. Detained youth, age 10-17, are both male and female offenders and alleged offenders who are awaiting court hearings or placement by the state into residential facilities. The current facility opened in 2006 and has a licensed capacity of 108 residents. The basic services are secure confinement, education, life skills, recreation, and medical and mental health counseling. The facility is also a program site for USD 259.

Mission
The mission of the Juvenile Detention Facility is to provide continuing education for students who are being detained while awaiting court adjudication. Each student is served with equity in the development of attitudes, competencies, knowledge and experiences necessary for reaching his or her potential for responsible and productive membership in an ever-changing society.

Programs
Certified teachers provide instruction in math, PE, language arts, computers/business, social studies, and science during a seven class period day. Special education service is also provided.

Student Activities
Sedgwick County juvenile corrections staff provide evening and weekend activities for the students detained at Juvenile Detention Facility. These may include counseling, recreational and independent living activities.
