Most students rely on some type of financial aid to help pay the high costs of college. The following links provide information about a number of financial aid opportunities from both government and private sources. Included are two sites that provide free searches for private scholarships.
Federal Student Aid -- The government guide on preparing for college. The "Funding" tab will take you to a list of financial aid resources. Other tabs give information about the entire process of getting ready for college.
Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) -- Apply for Federal Financial Aid by completing the FAFSA form online. Application needs to be completed after January 1 and before the end of March of the student's senior year. Income tax information for both the student and parents will be needed. The application determines eligibility for any type of federal financial aid; including grants, loans, and work study. Every college student should complete a FAFSA.
Apply for a PIN -- Both the student and one parent with income on the FAFSA need to apply for a PIN. The PIN numbers allow the FAFSA to be signed electronically without mailing in a signature page. Using PIN numbers will also speed up the time it takes to process the FAFSA. Students and parents will use the same PIN numbers each year a FAFSA is completed.
