Health Services
Children learn best when they are well, when they can be attentive, energetic, and happy, and when they can see hear, and grow optimally. Teachers can be most effective when they understand the health status and needs of their pupils and can adapt instructional programs accordingly. The Health Services Department can assist in the promotion of these optimal learning conditions. However, we believe that parents have the primary responsibility for their children’s health. Together we can guarantee a safe and healthful school experience for your child.
The School Nurse in your child’s school is your primary contact for your health concerns. Many schools have full-time nurses on their staff; all have some amount of nurse time in their building. She or he can answer your health-related questions, and needs to be informed of your health concerns for your child. If your school does not have full-time nursing, see your child’s principal, and/or ask which day your nurse will be back in that school.
If you have any questions about health concerns of your child, that you feel may impact his/her educational experience, please do not hesitate to contact your school nurse.
Our purpose with this web site is to inform parents and their children about the services available through the Wichita Public Schools Department of Health Services.
