NCLB Choice and Free Tutoring
Title I schools receive additional federal funding to help all students meet state standards.
Under the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act of 2000, these schools are also held to high accountability requirements: If a Title I school does not make Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) for two consecutive years, it is identified as "in need of improvement". The school is then required to offer public school choice to all parents.
If the school fails to make AYP for another year after being identified for improvement, it is required to offer supplemental educational services or free tutoring to students who qualify for free or reduced lunch.
