2009-2010 Free Tutoring
Under the supplemental educational services (SES) requirement of NCLB, a Title I school in its second year of improvement or restructuring must provide free tutoring to eligible students.
-- The free tutoring is offered by state-approved private providers.
-- Classess are scheduled outside the school day.
-- Different tutoring models are provided: at home, in school, small group instruction,
one-on one, or computerized.
-- Parents choose the provider that best meets the needs of their child.
-- The district pays the tutoring costs of about $2,000 for each student.
Eligibility
A student is eligible to participate in Free Tutoring if they attend one of the following 7 schools and receive free or reduced-price lunches:
Enrollment Process
On August 24, the district will mail a packet to parents of all eligible students. The packet gives them multiple ways for learning about providers. Parents could:
1. Review the "Grid of Providers" that provides summary information about each program OR
2. Watch the "DVD of Providers" that includes short presentations about each program OR
3. Visit the Provider Displays and talk to provider representatives during Parent Teacher Conferences.
Parents should complete the "Application for Free Tutoring" in the packet and return it to the school by Friday, October 2 in the envelope provided.
