The Office of Safe and Drug-Free Schools assists schools in creating safe and drug-free learning environments that support academic achievement. Professional development, training and educational programs are provided to district personnel and students by our Drug and Violence Prevention Specialists. These innovative programs, which are consistent with the Principles of Effectiveness, are intended to increase school safety and prevent and reduce drug abuse, gang activity, bullying, and other forms of youth violence.
In order to best meet the needs of the Wichita Public School community the Wichita Safe Schools Training Academy has been established. Through this academy a variety of school safety, drug and violence prevention trainings are offered to all school community members. Additionally, the Office of Safe and Drug-Free Schools leads the Wichita Public Schools’ Emergency Response and Crisis Management Advisory Board which fosters sustainable partnerships among the schools, the community and first responders in order to enhance our ability to prevent, respond and recover from crisis situations.
