In JROTC and Leadership programs, instructors do more than teach! They train and mentor cadets to become better citizens through character development and service training. These goals are accomplished through comprehensive, elective courses where a broad spectrum of subjects such as American History, Constitution, technology awareness, government and current events are taught. Cadets receive personal skills training on how to study effectively, take tests, develop winning habits, conduct job interviews, overcome fear of failure and set personal goals. Leadership training includes how to motivate others, make decisions, solve problems, work as a team member and plan, speak and write effectively. In Air Force JROTC at East and Heights High Schools cadets also learn about the history and principles of flight, and space exploration. Cadets can become involved in extracurricular activities such as drill team, color guard and competitive land navigation. Summer leadership camps are available where cadets participate in confidence training courses, leadership reaction training and team sports.
