Environmental Services handles all aspects of environmental health and safety issues for students, staff and employees in the Wichita Public Schools.
This includes asbestos management, hazardous waste management, custodial management, indoor air quality, mold issues, lead, underground storage tanks, general safety management and more.
Bulletins/ Advisories
- The Wichita Public Schools was awarded the IAQ Tools for Schools Model of Excellence Award for 2007. The award was presented to the district by EPA officials in Washington D.C. Environmental Services staff is proud to have its hard work recognized nationally. The district was awarded the Excellence award in 2005. This new award recognizes our commitment to improving indoor air quality in our schools and offices.
- Wichita Public Schools was recently recognized for its work in
eliminating hazardous material from school buildings. The Kansas Department of Health and Environment presented the Wichita Public Schools with their Pollution Prevention Award for Excellence for "outstanding leadership through pollution prevention". This award recognizes the hard work that environmental services personnel have put into packaging and disposing of old and unwanted laboratory chemicals and other hazardous substances from school buildings. Elemental mercury was also removed from classrooms as well as mercury thermometers.
