AmeriCorps GRASP Program Information
AmeriCorps GRASP members tutor and mentor students in elementary and Middle schools under the supervision of a certified teacher. Members are also required to take Intro to Para and Intro to Teaching offered by the Wichita Area Technical College. Upon completion of our program members who pass the Para Pro Exam will be certified as highly qualified paraeducators. Members are also required to attend additonal trainings, members meetings and participate in service learning projects and community projects.
Requirements
- Must be 17 years of age
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Citizen of the United States or Permanent Resident
- Pass KBI/SRS child abuse registry check
- Negative TB test
- Desire to further your education
- Ability and desire to work with children
- Able to make a commitment for 1 year (August 1 to July 31)
- Must be able to complete 1700 hours of service
- Must attend member meetings, trainings and college classes
- Strong desire for community service
911 Serve America-Members presented Police Substations with a
certificate of appreciation for their service to the community.

Informational meetings about the program will be held in April. Interested applicants must attend an information meeting in order to get an application. Applicants will also be required to shadow a member in May. Interviews will be held in June and new members will be selected in July. Start date for the 2010-2011 program year will be August 1, 2010.
