The K-8 school is designed for 600 kindergarten through 8th grade students. It sits on 5.49 acres.

The school will be a neighborhood magnet with half of the seats reserved for neighborhood students and the other half will be required to apply through the Magnet Admissions Office.
The district intends to apply to have the Primary Years and Middle Years Program through the International Baccalaureate organization at the Gordon Parks Academy. The curriculum will be delivered to all students who attend the school.
On the first floor are three kindergarten, first grade, second grade third grade and fourth grade classrooms. There is also an art room, two music rooms, a cafeteria, a FEMA shelter, gymnasium with bleacher seating, boys and girls dressing rooms, a media center (library) and associated computer room.
The second floor has three math, language arts, and fifth grade classrooms as well as a computer lab a science classroom, a social studies classroom and a FACS lab. Connected to the southeast side of the school is a clinic building with exam, dental, immunization, and records rooms as well as office spaces. Compton Construction Corporation is the general contractor for the $9,424,000.00 complex. Schaefer Johnson Cox Frey is the architect.
