Seltzer Elementary students show off the site plan that shows their school's two future editions on the west and north wings.
Seltzer Elementary will soon have bond construction
The Board of Education approved a contract to begin construction of additions at Seltzer Elementary, the first school project with the $370 million bond issue. Caro Construction was the lowest responsible bidder with a $1,931,700 bid, which is $310,300 below the project’s budget. Law Kingdon, Inc. is the architectural firm on the project.
The additions at Seltzer will help relieve overcrowding due to the rapid growth in the area around the school. The first addition on the west wing includes three kindergarten classrooms. The second addition on the north wing includes three second grade classrooms, two third grade classooms, and boys and girls restrooms. The second addition will also be the school’s FEMA shelter. There will be additional upgrades including new parking, a new fire access drive and a new air chiller.
Construction will start by the end of October and is scheduled to be substantially complete in June 2010.
More information on the bond issue can be found on the Wichita Public Schools' website.
