District closer to agreement for land for new schools
The Bel Aire City Council has taken action to approve a proposal by the Wichita Public Schools to purchase 140 acres for the new northeast high school and K-8 school for $1.781 million.
The district is proposing to purchase 40 acres by the southeast corner of 53rd St. North and Woodlawn for the K-8 school and 100 acres near the northeast corner of 53rd Street and Rock Road for the new northeast high school. The new high school is expected to open in the fall of 2012 and the K-8 is expected to open in the fall of 2011.
Details on the offer will have to be discussed by the Wichita Board of Education before there is an official contract agreement. The district plans to have a final agreement by the end of September.
More information on the bond issue can be found on the Wichita Public Schools’ website.
