Wichita schools will host H1N1 vaccination clinics for students
The Wichita Public Schools is partnering with the Sedgwick County Health Department to provide H1N1 vaccinations in every school. The vaccine will be provided free of charge to all students and staff who meet criteria established by the Centers for Disease Control. It will not be mandatory for any student to receive the H1N1 vaccine; the school clinics merely offer the vaccine in the most convenient place possible for one of the priority vaccine groups.
The Sedgwick County Health Department will provide all vaccine, consent forms and other supplies. Administration of the vaccine will be given by school nurses and may include licensed volunteers recruited by SCHD. The clinics will be held during the school day.
“Our priority is the health and well-being of our students and staff. This is an opportunity where school nurses, the health care experts in our schools, can provide a service needed and expected by the community and one which will continue to support our core mission of educating children,” Superintendent John Allison stated.
More details regarding when the clinics will be provided as the information becomes available.
