BOE approved to publish the proposed budget
The Board of Education
adopted a resolution to publish the proposed 2009-10 budget
, which sets the budget amount, during its July 27 meeting. The 2009-10 budget amount is set at $621 million, including $10 million in stimulus funds (American Reinvestment and Recovery Act). Click here to see the Proposed Budget at a Glance booklet.
The BOE also rescinded Policy 4028 addressing the $1,500 incentive bonus for teachers and administrators working in high-poverty schools. Eliminating the $1,500 bonus would save 46 instructional staff positions.
“This is tough decision to make, but given our financial situation, we have to look at all options,” said BOE President Connie Dietz.
“If we don’t cut the incentive pay, we’ll have to make the cuts elsewhere,” said BOE Vice President Connie Dietz. “I would prefer to cut the bonus than to cut 46 positions.”

The BOE will adopt the budget August 10. The public is welcome to address the BOE about the budget and can sign up to speak at their meetings by contacting the Clerk of the Board, 973-4553.
