All-City Concerts showcase Wichita’s finest student musicians
The Wichita Public Schools will present the annual All-City Honor Concerts at Century II Concert Hall. These concerts showcase the talents of hundreds of Wichita Public Schools students ranging from grades 5-12 and represent music programs in all of the elementary, middle, and high schools. The concerts are free and open to the public.
All-City Honor Bands Concert – Monday, February 1, 7 p.m. Four bands will perform this year, including the 11th and 12th Grade High School Honor Band under the direction of Dr. Frank Tracz, Kansas State University. The 9th and 10th Grade High School Honor Band will be directed by Brian Hoffman, Director of Instrumental Music at Northwest High School. Mark Jones, instrumental music teacher at Truesdell Middle School will conduct the 8th Grade Honor Band. Kim Vogt, Director of Instrumental Music at Heights High School, will conduct the 7th Grade Honor Band.
All-City Honor Orchestras Concert – Tuesday, February 2, 7 p.m. Dr. Norman Gamboa, Director of Orchestras at Washburn University will direct the High School Honor Orchestra. The 8th Grade Honor Orchestra will be conducted by James Dreiling, Director of Instrumental Music at South High School. Gray Bishop, Director of Instrumental Music at Stucky Middle School will conduct the 7th Grade Honor Orchestra and Catherine Everingham, Director of Orchestras at Coleman Middle School will conduct the 6th Grade Honor Orchestra.
All-City Honor Choirs Concert – Tuesday, February 23, 7 p.m. Dr. John Paul Johnson, Director of the School of Music at Wichita State University will direct the High School Honor Choir. Karen Sims, Director of Choirs for Maize South Middle School will direct the Middle School Honor Choir and Jill Wiechman, Vocal Music Specialist at Dodge Literacy Magnet Elementary School will direct the 5th Grade Honor Choir.
These concerts offer students a rare opportunity to perform with other district student musicians under the direction of distinguished guest conductors and some of our most outstanding local teachers. This is truly a musical highlight and honor that many of our students will long remember. Please join us for these concerts as we celebrate the heritage and tradition, which is Wichita Public Schools Music Education.
