Board of Education approves superintendent contract
The Board of Education voted to approve the contract of incoming superintendent John Allison during its April 27 meeting. The three-year contract includes:
- A base salary of $224,910
- $25,000 per year in a tax-sheltered retirement account of the Superintendent’s choice beginning July 1, 2010 and ending June 30, 2014. If the superintendent leaves prior to June 30, 2014, he forfeits entitlements to all contributions made to the retirement account.
- Health and life insurance, cell phone, disability and fringe benefits under the same conditions of eligibility as provided for other certificated employees
- The base salary will be increased by $20,000 when the superintendent is awarded an Ed.D. degree in Education on or before August 1, 2012.
“Urban superintendents are in high demand and in order to attract the best superintendents, districts need to offer competitive salaries,” said Board of Education President Lynn Rogers. “This package balances competitiveness with our need for fiscal responsibility. Mr. Allison’s salary is one of the top ten in the state, but it is not the highest, even though we are the largest district in the state by far.”
Mr. Allison will start as superintendent with the Wichita Public Schools on July 6.
