John Allison meets students and staff
Incoming superintendent John Allison met students and staff during the second day of his visit to Wichita. He visited with members of the Superintendent Student Advisory Council (SuperSAC), toured Southeast High School and McCollom Elementary, and met with members of the United Teachers of Wichita, Service Employees International and the Wichita Educational Administrators Association.
During his meeting with SuperSAC, he listened to the students’ feedback from the Superintendent Student Dialogue that occurred on March 24. Students also shared a little bit about themselves to the new superintendent and how they appreciate being a member of SuperSAC.
Mr. Allison said that being able to meet with the students was one of the highlights of his visit.
“You are the reason why we’re all here,” Mr. Allison told the students.

Besides principal Leroy Parks, Southeast students Suzan Lisenby and Joseph Randle helped show off their school for the incoming superintendent. The tour included the school’s College and Career Counseling Center, an AVID class and the school’s IDL classroom. The principal also took time to share some of the school’s successes and some of their challenges.
During his tour of McCollom, Mr. Allison met with Deanna Pierce’s fifth-grade class. The class had sent him letters with an Are You Smarter Than a Fifth-Grader theme. In the letters, students included questions from lessons they were learning. He confessed that while he knew many of the answers, the students stumped him on some of the questions. He said the letters meant a lot to him and he was very thankful to receive them.
In the evening, the district hosted a reception for district employees to meet Mr. Allison. Many employees took advantage of the opportunity to meet their new boss and to introduce themselves.
