Alex Robinson honored by President Bush
Alex Robinson, District Supervisor of Security Services, was honored by President George W. Bush with the President’s Call to Service Award. President Bush presented the Award to Robinson during his visit to Wichita on June 15. Robinson was honored for his volunteer work with the Boys and Girls Club of South Central Kansas. He was given the award after President Bush stepped off of Air Force One at McConnell Air Force Base.
“He thanked me for volunteering at the Boys and Girls Club and for the work at my church and throughout the community and for being a good American,” said Robinson.
“I thanked him for honoring me with this award and I welcomed him to Wichita.” Robinson said. “And I said, “My family and Marquis Bradley thank you for this honor.’”
Bradley is the young man who Robinson has mentored at the Boys and Girls Club for the past ten years.
After Robinson was presented with his award, he rode with President Bush’s motorcade to the new Boys and Girls Club where the President toured the facility.
Robinson has volunteered with the Boys and Girls Club for 12 years and has logged more than 17,000 hours of community service. He began his volunteer service with the Boys and Girls Club when he was a community police officer with the Wichita Police Department. Besides his volunteer work with the Boys and Girls Club, he has mentored high school students and helped create the food bank at Dellrose United Methodist Church.
“It is important that we volunteer to support our kids,” he said. “Because kids who are connected with their community are healthy, stronger and better American citizens.”
Superintendent Winston Brooks also participated in the tour of the Boys and Girls Club with President Bush. The district’s new K-8 school currently under construction is being built next to the new Boys and Girls Club and The Opportunity Project (TOPS) early childhood facility at 25th St. and Grove.
