Board members gather community feedback
Board of Education members asked the community for their input during a BOE Night Out Community Forum on Oct. 15. Board members held
three separate meetings at different locations across the city, based on BOE Districts. Guests first watched a video
highlighting student achievement gains and summarizing future challenges, like busing and facility needs
.
After the video, attendees divided into groups to discuss three topics: How can the community support the academic achievement of all students; as the district looks at changing the desegregation plan, what issues should be considered; and what are priorities for school facilities, as the district looks at population growth and the inadequacy of fine arts and athletic facilities.
Some of the main concerns discussed included improving athletic facilities, better communications between parents and teachers, smaller class sizes, improved technology and looking at the achievement gap if busing for desegregation were to end.
The feedback from all three meetings will be compiled and discussed as a BOE agenda item during the October 22 meeting.
