District Mission Statement Revised, Adopted By BOE
The Board of Education adopted revisions to the district's mission statement at its June 25 meeting. The changes reflect the district's fundamental commitment to three things: student achievement, safe school environments and embrace of the rich cultural differences in the Wichita Public Schools.
The new mission statement reads as follows:
The mission of the Wichita Public Schools is to provide a safe learning environment, where all students acquire the skills and knowledge necessary for success in a global community, and cultural differences are honored.
"The mission statement defines the purpose of an organization," said Connie Dietz, BOE member. "It gives direction to and guides the work within the organization. By adding the statement 'where cultural differences are honored' says that we - the Wichita Public Schools - embrace all cultures as part of our schools."
Dietz suggested that the community can expect to see more emphasis placed on the understanding, celebration and integration of all cultures as part of our schools.
"This is a must as our workd is an inter-cultural world. One of the skills students need to be successful in today's and tomorow's world is to embrace, honor and understand all cultures."
