BOE recognizes Russ Meyer for contribution
Superintendent
Winston Brooks and Board members recognized Russ Meyer, Chairman Emeritus of Cessna Aircraft Co., for a recent contribution he made to the district and for his continuous support of teachers and students.
Meyer has been the driving force behind the community development initiative on 21st Street, which includes building a new Boys and Girls Club and TOPS facility. Meyer was honored recently by the Kansas Health Foundation with their Leadership Award, which came with a $25,000 grant. Meyer donated the $25,000 to be used by teachers and staff at the new K-8 school that will be built in the 21st St. complex and open in 2008.
“I didn’t know this was coming and I was very surprised,” said Superintendent Brooks. “This is symbolic of his belief in the partnership with the district.”
“I have heard that teachers often have to pay for supplies from their own pockets,” Meyer said. “This will be one way to assist the teachers so they won’t have to do that.”
The Board of Education recognized Meyer for his gift to the district during the June 26 Board of Education meeting.
