The Spring 2009 Red Carpet winner was Adams Elementary. Students and staff were recognized with a surprise visit, complete with red carpet, by Assistant Superintendent of Elementary Schools Alicia Thompson and District 1 Board Member Betty Arnold.
Adams was chosen after a selection committee reviewed applications from schools who met certain criteria. This included all staff members being trained in customer service and submitting a one-page narrative describing how their school 1) exhibits a family-friendly environment, 2) communicates with parents and community, 3) uses technology, 4) values diversity, and 5) utilizes methods to evaluate its family-friendly efforts. Adams stood out because of their efforts with their Watch D.O.G.S programs, monthly coffee at the curb activities and their “rate our space” surveys to families.
To demonstrate how important this initiative is, the school also received $1,000 from corporate sponsor Single Source. Adams will use this money to assist with the installation of projectors in their building.
The Red Carpet Award is presented each semester to a school who has participated in customer service training and makes a commitment to providing a friendly, welcoming environment to all their customers. The district believes this is extremely important to its efforts to advance education and build partnerships with families and the community.
