Wichita Public Schools Announces 2008 Distinguished Classroom Teacher Award Recipients

• Megan Parsons, kindergarten teacher, Jefferson Elementary - New Teacher, Elementary
• Frances Johannsen, sixth-grade language arts, Marshall Middle School- New Teacher, Secondary
• Rebecca Palacio, first-grade Spanish, language arts, Horace Mann Dual Language Magnet - Primary Teacher (Pre-K through 2)
• Kayla Grayson, fourth-grade, Colvin Elementary - Intermediate (3 through 5)
• Christie Klein, sixth- thru eighth-grade math teacher, Horace Mann Dual Language Magnet- Middle School
• Marcia Williamson, autism instructor and categorical department chair, East High School - High School

The recipients were honored at the February 25 Board of Education meeting. To view video highlights of each award recipient, click here.

During the meeting, it was announced that Kayla Grayson and Marcia Williamson will represent the district for the prestigious Kansas Teacher of the Year Award and Megan Parsons and Frances Johannsen will represent the district for the Kansas Horizon Award, which honors first-year teachers.

Peers, building administrators or the praents of students may nominate teachers for the award. The nomination window is normally late fall through early January and the forms are posted to this website. A committee consisting of principals, teachers, the assistant superintendents of elementary, middle and high schools and a member of the United Teachers of Wichita select the final recipients.
