Distinguished Classroom Teacher Awards
Wichita Public Schools announces 2010 Distinguished Classroom Teachers
The Distinguished Classroom Teacher Awards program honors outstanding teachers who affect the quality of education in the Wichita Public Schools. The Wichita Public Schools is proud to announce the recipients of the 2010 Distinguished Classroom Teacher Awards in their respective categories:
- Megan Vicin, kindergarten teacher, Kensler Elementary - New Teacher, Elementary
- Theresa Blunt, seventh-grade math teacher, Truesdell Middle School - New Teacher, Secondary
- Shannon Andres, kindergarten teacher, Adams Elementary - Primary Teacher (Pre-K through 2)
- Andrew Gonzalez, third-grade, Allen Elementary- Intermediate (3 through 5)
- Cindy Siemens, Language Arts teacher, Robinson Middle School - Middle School
- Stephanie Chippeaux, math teacher, South High School - High School
- Kim A. Morrissey, P.E. teacher, Dodge Literacy Magnet Elementary - Support Teacher
The recipients will be honored at the March 8 Board of Education meeting. At the meeting it will be announced who will represent the district for the prestigious Kansas Teacher of the Year award.
Peers, building administrators or the parents of students may nominate teachers for the award. The nomination window is normally late fall through early January and the forms are posted to this website.
A committee consisting of school administrators and teachers, the coordinator of Guidance Services, the assistant superintendents of elementary, middle and high schools and a member of the United Teachers of Wichita select the final recipients.
