Our Kids, Our Schools and Our Future
The Wichita Public Schools bond issue is about:
SMALLER CLASSES
• 275 new classrooms will provide space to reduce class sizes at all levels (18-20 students for elementary schools, 22-24 for middle and high school core classes)
• Adds 6 new schools to meet current and projected student population growth
SAFER CHILDREN
• 60 storm shelter safe rooms added to protect EVERY CHILD AT EVERY SCHOOL from severe weather
• All spaces are classrooms first, and will be utilized daily for student instruction
• Additional $18 million from FEMA will fund storm shelter upgrades
ECONOMIC VITALITY AND STRONGER FUTURES
• Upgrades technical education programs to support Wichita’s projected business needs
• Renovates or rebuilds aging and unsafe physical education, athletic and fine arts facilities
• Supports the end of busing for desegregation with new and renovated schools in northeast Wichita
Needs identified by the schools and the community
A Community Steering Team built this plan and identified these needs as most important for Wichita students right now!
