It's all about
Our Kids, Our Schools and Our Future
NEW!!! On April 7, the BOE votes to delay the bond issue vote. The BOE will adopt a resolution announcing the new election date at a later meeting.
The $350 million bond issue would address many critical needs for Wichita and its students:
- Additional classrooms to accommodate growth in key areas of our community and to reduce
class sizes
- Build 60 safe room storm shelters
- Support the end of busing for desegregation with renovations to schools in the AAA area to provide equitable facilities
- Renovates or rebuilds aging and unsafe physical education, athletic and fine arts facilities
Needs identified by the schools and the community
A Community Steering Team built this plan and identified these needs as most important for Wichita students right now!
Why now?
The 2000 bond issue did not address all of the district's critical needs. There are still unaddressed needs and more needs that appear as the district continues to grow. The need for new schools to accommodate growth in northeast and southeast Wichita will intensify as more homes are constructed.
Construction costs are also a significant consideration – delays on critical needs will increase the cost to the district.
