Feeder Plan Summary

The $350 million bond issue would address many critical needs including building additional classrooms to accommodate growth, building 60 safe room storm shelters, supporting the end of busing for desegregation and renovate or rebuild aging fine arts, physical education and athletic facilities.

Schools that don't receive any bond issue improvements would have their needs addressed with capital funds if the bond issue passes.

Improvements by feeder pattern

Yes, it's true. This bond issue plan will:



·     Build 2 new 800-student high schools (expandable to 1,200), each with storm shelter; swimming pool; 5,000 seat stadium; 8 lane track; 8 tennis courts; 900-seat auditorium; baseball, softball and soccer facilities; fine arts facilities; library; cafeteria; and student support space.

·     Build 2 new 800-student kindergarten - 8^th grade schools, each with storm shelter; 8 lane track; 700-seat auditorium; fine arts facilities; library; multipurpose room; and student support space.

·     Build 2 new 450-student elementary schools, each with storm shelter; art and music classrooms; library; multipurpose room; and student support space.

·      Replace 2 elementary schools, expanding one of those schools by 150 students

·      Provide approximately 275 classrooms for growth, overcrowding, special programs and class size reduction

·      Provide classrooms and other facilities to support the end of busing for desegregation

·      Replace the remaining 11 portable classrooms with permanent construction

·      Add or expand libraries at 12 schools

·      Provide storm shelters at 60 schools in partnership with FEMA (54 existing schools, 6 new schools)

·      Add FEMA shelter restrooms at 2 elementary schools and 1 special school

·      Upgrade auditoriums at 6 high schools and 11 middle schools

·      Provide new auditoriums at 1 high school, 1 middle school

·      Upgrade and/or expand fine arts facilities (art and music classrooms) at 6 high schools and 5 middle schools

·     Build 2,000-seat gymnasiums at 5 high schools

·      Replace swimming pools at 6 high schools

·      Provide upgraded football fields with all weather turf and seating for 1,000 at 4 high schools

·      Provide all weather tracks at 3 high schools, 6 middle schools

·      Replace 8 tennis courts at 7 high schools

·      Upgrade baseball, softball, and soccer facilities at 7 high schools

·      Provide second gyms for physical education and athletic practice at 7 middle schools

·      Add and/or upgrade student support spaces in 2 high schools, 2 middle schools, 21 elementary schools and 4 special schools

·      Add lunchrooms/cafeterias at 9 elementary schools

·      Enlarge cafeterias at 2 middle schools

·     Provide new cafeteria at 1 middle school

·     Add multipurpose rooms to 15 schools
