SHORT-TERM DISABILITY / TEMPORARY LEAVE
Temporary leave provides employees with an authorized paid absence from work for medical care, personal illness or injury, or the care of an ill member of the employee's immediate family living in the same household. Immediate family members are the employee's spouse, parents, parents-in-law, grandparents, brothers, sisters, and children.
Disability benefits are extended to eligible employees from the disability income benefits reserve fund during the first 180 calendar days of total and continuous disability resulting from personal illness, injury or incapacitation if the employee has used all his/her accumulated temporary leave days and satisfied any applicable waiting period. Thereafter, benefits are available as proscribed by the Kansas Public Employement Retirement System (KPERS) or the Social Security Retirement Act.
