New Licensure Fingerprint Requirements
Effective July 1, 2002, all applicants for initial Kansas licensure and any applicant whose license has been expired for more than six months, will be required to submit fingerprint cards for a criminal history records check. Fingerprint cards will be submitted to the Kansas Bureau of Investigation (KBI) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) for clearance.
A license will not be issued by KSDE or a teaching contract by the Wichita Public Schools until a criminal history records check clearance is confirmed. Applicants are required to submit two separate checks: one in the amount of $44.00 for the background check submitted with the fingerprint cards; and, one for $39.00 for the license application fee submitted in a separate envelope with the completed application packet.
A background check clearance is valid for one year. If an application for a license is submitted one year after a background check clearance is received, a new set of fingerprints and payment for a new clearance will be required.
Special fingerprint cards and pre-addressed envelopes are available at any university department of education, Wichita Public Schools Human Resources Office, or the Kansas State Department of Education, Topeka, Kansas.
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact Heather Ybarra at (316) 973-4619.
