Friendship Fund
The Wichita Public Schools district participates in the United Way of the Plains annual fund campaign through its United Way/Friendship Fund drive. Representatives from the United Way/Friendship Fund make presentations to staff throughout the district. Employees may voluntarily pledge payroll deductions or make one-time donations to the district's Friendship Fund and/or United Way campaign. Of the total received, about 70 percent is distributed* to the United Way of the Plains. Employees may also choose to designate gifts to either organization. Participating employees receive a detachable receipt to show evidence of their contribution when they are solicited for other donations by United Way agencies.
For 2008-09, Wichita Public Schools employees pledged an all time high of $263, 974 to the Friendship Fund/United Way campaign.
The Friendship Fund contributes to selected charities and directly assists eligible district employees each year with emergency assistance. Each school year, an estimated 100 employees recieve assistance.
An executive committee that represents various groups within the district operates the Friendship Fund. The Fund is independent of the Board of Education.
Employee application forms are available on the district Intranet Portal. Go to "Sites", "AMAC", then click on "Friendship Fund." Click on "Friendship Fund Application and Instructions."
On the third Wednesday of each month, the executive Friendship Fund committee meets at a location in the district by appointment with employees who have completed applications.
