Original Entrance
- Stones from Augusta, Kansas. 1890 construction
- Bell Tower (1983 wooden replica of the original)
- Entrance framed by twin towers similar to a castle, with a stone arch over the entrance
- Intricate design on the pushplates of the inside front doors
- Originally the only way into or out of the building, there were no fire escapes
- Bell rope (permission needed to ring the bell)
- Inside alcoves for waterbuckets - there was a bucket and a cup in each of these niches, one for the girls and one for the boys. Students would fill the cup, get a drink and pass it on.
The Two Halves of the School
- Back (west) half of the building is the 1911 addition with style changes
- Door of 1890s Room has very plain woodwork above it
- Door of School Furniture Room has extra mouldings
- Door to the 1890 cloak room has a very high archway
- Door to the 1911 cloak room has a much shorter archway
- Corner guards on the two sides of the school do not match
- 1890 stairway railing is a curved piece of wood attached to the wall
- 1911 railing is a straight piece of wood with brass brackets
- 1890 banister is curved
- 1911 banister is very straight
- 1890 newel posts are curvilinear
- 1911 newel posts are square
- 1890 newel caps on the posts are gone except for one on the wall outside the original principal's office (second floor)
