Staff at Seltzer Elementary and Metro-Boulevard have received the Education EDGE Koch Focus mini-grants for 2009. The Koch Foundation provided a special gift to the Education EDGE for “focused grants.” The grants were given for classroom projects involving social studies, American history, youth entrepreneurship or economic education. Seltzer Elementary’s first-grade team, Audrey Miller, Stephanie Lane, Tom Klocek, Sara Townsend, Staci Rodman, and Malinda Ketchersid, received $4,877 for their mini-grant entitled Putting the “Engage Me” in Engagement. In partnership with the Great Plains Nature Center, this project will strengthen the first-grade science program by integrating technology like airliners and clickers into the science lessons. The variety of educational experiences will increase student engagement and excitement about learning science.
