Classroom Mini-Grant Awards - Spring 2006
In May 2006, the second round of Education EDGE Classroom Mini-Grant Awards were announced. Teachers from 10 schools received mini-grants totaling $31,058, to be used during the 2006-07 school year. The grant recipients were:

Jeremy Johnson, Stucky Middle School: Focuses on struggling readers and will integrate technology to support improved reading (later returned due to a change in schools).
Jennifer Stebral, Robin Myers and Faith Harbert, Black Elementary: Uses high-interest science and social studies stories to improve student reading.
Jackie Kohl and Stacie Morris, Wells Special Education Day School: Uses journals, reflection and integration of technology to improve student performance in reading and writing.
Susan Myer and Marla Lindenmeyer, Northeast Magnet High School: Cross-curricular math and physical education project to enhance physical activity and analyze student progress in designed experiments.

| Teachers at Lewis Open Magnet Elementary celebrate their START SMART TOGETHER grant award, which focuses on establishing phonics awareness for all children through research-based, hands-on activities, and SMART Board technology in the classroom. | Teresa Bell, Dawn Obermeyer, Linda Koehler and Barbara Reid, Lewis Elementary: Focuses on phonics through hands-on activities and SMART Board technology.
Kimberly Konecy, Michelle Cotter and Aimee McCully, Anderson Elementary: Incorporates clickers and an e-Instruction Chalkboard to improve text comprehension and mathematics skills.
Susan Mandelbaum, Robinson Middle School: Students will focus on ordinary people in the world who have made a difference.
Teralyn Cohn, Southeast High School: Integrates SMART Board technology with language arts to improve the quality of student presentations and writing.
Kelli Miller, Catherine Clark and Kathleen Fisk, Buckner Elementary: Students will strengthen their letter knowledge and decoding skills reading and listening to themselves on Palm Pilots.
The Education EDGE allows employees and community members to voluntarily give contributions to the Classroom Mini-Grant, Fine Arts and/or Athletics Gift Funds. The Education EDGE Gift Funds will support all or a portion of any project in the Wichita Public Schools not supported by tax monies. For more information, contact 973-4552.
