Fine Arts Gift Fund
Four rounds of Education EDGE investments have supported nearly $100,000 of improvements in support of elementary, middle and high school students throughout the Wichita Public Schools. The investments include:
- Beginning musical instruments for elementary and middle school students (21 trumpets, 15 cellos, 10 violins, 10 clarinets, 5 baritones and 2 string basses)
- Auditorium stage lighting instruments/devices (105 different units)
- Electric kilns (14, plus installation costs)
- Potter's wheels (14)
- Dark Room Enlargers (5)
- Digital cameras (5)
- Rolling Trimmers (2)
- Pug Mill (1)
- NEC projector (1)
Priorities Remain
The Fine Arts Gift Fund Team has identified the needs that remain and for which additional Education EDGE resources will be raised:
- Beginning instruments - need has been identified as 600 new beginning instruments. As of June 2008, 63 have been purchased, meeting 11% of the need.
- Auditorium lighting - As of June 2008, 105 auditorium lighting units have been purchased, meeting 37% of the need. To appropriately equip all high school auditoriums in the district, 178 additional units are required.
- Visual Arts Equipment - An estimated one-third of the need for visual arts equipment has been met over the past four years with purchases of kilns, potter's wheels and digital cameras. Additional and similar needs remain in this area which will support creative classroom endeavors.
