Martin Libhart
Superintendent of Schools
 |
It is an honor to serve as the Interim Superintendent of the Wichita Public Schools. Winston Brooks, who is now the Superintendent of the Albuquerque district, left a legacy of accomplishments during his 10-year tenure as our Superintendent. The Board of Education, leadership team, and I are committed to building on this legacy of improved student achievement, upgraded facilities, and fiscal responsibility.
Parents, students, staff, and community members can be proud of what we have achieved in recent years. The Wichita Public Schools provide a safe, caring learning environment for nearly 49,000 students. The district offers choices ranging from neighborhood and magnet schools to technical programs and community learning centers. Our highly qualified teaching and administrative staff helps all students succeed. As a result, the district's performance on Kansas assessments has continuously improved each year in the past decade. Many of our students stay in the Wichita area to attend local colleges, universities, and technical schools. Thanks to Wichita's excellent manufacturing, information, and services economy, our graduates have career opportunities that are without parallel in the state of Kansas. |
I have devoted the last 20 years of my career to the Wichita Public Schools, and am personally committed to our continuing progress. We have much to accomplish in 2008-09, including our phase-out of the busing for desegregation plan, the ongoing effort to educate community members regarding critical needs in our proposed bond issue, and most important - our continued gains in student achievement. Thank you for your continuing support.
Best wishes,
