The Electronics Department consists of ten technicians who are responsible for a wide variety of services for the District which enhance the learning environment and security of staff and students. Some of the duties this department performs are:
- Maintain cable television in the district and set up in-house television studios.
- Respond to all security-related electronics issues including repair of existing equipment, and installing and updating new technology. The District’s 110 buildings each have 80-100 sensors depending on the size of the building.
- Maintain and repair two-way radios and pagers. Twice a year the FCC requires that all two-way radios have a frequency test run. We have a preventive maintenance program during the summer at which time the District’s 2,000 radios are sent to the Electronics Department for inspection, cleaning, and replacement of worn and/or broken parts.
- Install and repair new intercom systems. The District has 90 intercom systems.
- Repair driver simulators systems in all the high schools.
- Maintain all clock systems which include bell schedules, individual clock repairs, plus installation and repair of all personal address systems in multi-purpose rooms, auditoriums and football fields. There are approximately 6,000 master control clocks and 100 personal address systems in the District.
- Install, set-up, maintain and repair 421 copiers; install new and advanced copiers that are utilized as network printers.
- One technician is the engineer for the district television studio. He repairs and maintains all studio equipment and cable channels, and installs and researches state-of-the-art digital equipment.
All electronic technicians are cross-trained to assist in all areas of this department.
